What is Building Management System

Building Management System is a computer-based system installed in buildings to manage and monitor equipment such as air-conditioning, heating, ventilation, lighting, power systems, security devices, IoT sensors, energy and gas meters.

Traditional BMS consists of servers, supervisory devices, field buses, controllers, inputs, and outputs. They are also known as Building Automation Systems (BAS).

A BMS connects the HVAC and different building equipment to work as one integrated unit. Ideally, they should centralize operations and make data easier to visualize using a user interface or console.

BMS has evolved into a series of incompatible components and impenetrable architectures. Their correct use saves 30% of the energy bill, but they are only present in 15% of large and upscale buildings due to their cost and complexity.
